Seminar for tattooists: The Art School Approach to Color Theory and Realism
This is a live recording of my Seminar filmed in October 2019 at PowerLine Tattoo. It is a lecture and powerpoint style presentation packed with information on color and art theory and how to apply fine art strategy and techniques to tattooing. The actual presentation is an hour and 25 minutes long followed by 30 minutes of very informative Q and A, we had a great group who asked some awesome questions. A lot of info is covered pretty quickly so I would recommend taking notes while watching. It is recommended that this seminar be watched on a computer, TV, or large tablet, not a phone as the visuals need to be seen with adequate detail.
The Color realism work of Evan Olin is brought to life by combining a background as an oil painter and alumni of the Rhode Island School of Design with his 16 years experience as a tattoo artist. It is this unique perspective that informs this approximately 2 hour lecture/ slideshow and Q and A discussion. Whether you are new to realism tattooing or are a seasoned veteran all artists are invited and will likely find useful info they can bring into their own work. Topics covered will be art theory and design, reference selection, value, color theory and blending, texture and focus, tools and materials, as well as a little bit of personal philosophy regarding staying motivated, self critique, and inspiration.
